Hello Great Nigerians!!
Please try to go through this little research on poultry farming it might rely be of help especially to the Newbies in the Poultry farming business.
We humans have really grown poultry for almost as long as they have been involved in Agiculture. This particular business of poultry farming had rely been existing for long which implies that millions of Nigerians have indeed taken good advantage of it and so many are still looking forward to venture into it. A school of thought also reveals that poultry was part of the Human diet. Please name any family or community where poultry farming is not encouraged if not for anything then it will be for the over demanding factors surrounding this same poultry farm animals. they are very much needed in every sector and most especially if you must look for an alternative to your everyday beef consumption and so on.
However alot of people have restricted the idea of poultry farming to only cock and hen thing but it goes alittle deeper than that. Poultry farming actually includes the following sub divisions which icludes Turkeys, Quails, Ostrich, Ducks, Geese, Guinea fowl and Pea fowls. All these are simply the various sectors of poultry farming which do exist.
Ducks
Turkeys
From all the above stated poultry animals the one which the largest remains the "Growing of Chickens.
Generally Chicken Production is divided into two major categories which are;
1. Broiler Production
2. Egg Production
The two divisions stated above was what majority who practice chicken production really do specialize on when it comes to poultry livestock. The production of chicken generally is what alot of families today do consider as alternative to the High Cost of Cow meats especially when it is being needed in large quantity. Chickens are generally raized for both meats and eggs.
The female chicken is kept and preserved to lay eggs while the male chicken are butchered for meat abundance.
Broilers are chicken that are produced for meat. they are ready available for meat consumption anywhere anytime they can always be acquired. They are marketed at about 8 weeks of age and shockingly broilers can growned to the point that its heavier than half the feed in half the time.
STEPS IN PRODUCTION OF BROILERS
1. Hatching of chicks (Eggs must be hatched in large commercial hatcheries and eggs must also be fertile. It means that hens have to be bred by roasters or they are artificially inseminated. Mean while in commercial hatcheries, Eggs are incubated in two separate rooms called the "settings room" and "the hatching room"
The eggs are placed in the setting room incubator and closely monitored for temperature and humidity.
2. The Eggs are turned everyday to ensure that a high percentage of the eggs hatch after the chicks are hatched, they are cleaned and dried. they are then placed in a room environment.
3. When they are about a day old, they are vaccinated and debeaked.
